The family and I went by today for a late lunch after visiting the Noccalula city park.
We were very pleased with the lunch specials. With no desserts and drinking water only, the four in my family ate well for around $30, including tax and tip.
Good pizza and spaghetti, small but fresh salad bar, and good service from a kind server. This was our first time to go here. We went based on my brother's recommendation and Yelp reviews. I hope we can go back soon.
If you are among the Alabamians who travel I-59 for their pilgrimage to Gatlinburg, this pizza place in downtown Gadsden won't be too far off your path, and should be worth the stop.
Five stars! -

Omg I had only had their pizza which is the best in this entire area but omg the large chef salad is the best salad in our lifetime! I was at my salon across the street and decided to try an few other things on the menu. Omg the potato skins are great but honey NOTHING compares to thSt large chef salad. I love EXCELLENCE and this place is something you would usually find in a big city. I can't believe GADSDEN has a restaurant this good!! I love the people at Mater's even though I've never met you. My salad was carry out. But I love you bc you have truly high standards and I for one applaud you!!!

First visit tonight. We had the Better Boy pizza. The pizza was really good. Very thick and stacked with toppings and the crust was good too. The place is small, close and loud due to small separated rooms. But food was well worth it. Service was not that great. Our waiter lacked in efficiency but he was polite and was trying. I will be back and look forward to trying some other items on the menu. Street parking (downtown) but there was a small public parking lot close by.

This place has to be the worst in Gadsden. I went there years ago with my friends and I was sick before I left. I decided to give them another try. My girlfriend & I ordered pizza, wings and fried pickles.
We had to send the fried pickles back because they were soggy, I asked for cheese sticks instead, they were okay. The wings were the worst wings around and the pizza wasn't very good. I eat pretty much everything and I would never eat at Mater's again. -

To me, Mater's Pizza defies classification. It's a deep dish pizza, but without a super thick crust and not cooked in a lot of grease like Chicago pizzas.
I love their Better Girl pizza - the ingredients complement each other perfectly. Also - not on the menu, but the best onion rings you'll ever have.
It's pricey but great pizza!
